Sarah Cain and her sister never got along growing up. That is not hard to believe since they chose very different lifestyles and vocations.
Sarah is thoroughly modern, likes “things” very much and can afford to buy them. She is still single at age 28 and is a very successful real estate agent in Portland, Oregon. Her sister, Ivy chose to marry an Amish man and join the Plain lifestyle. They had five children before her husband died. The sisters have not even seen one another for 12 years. Now Sarah gets word that Ivy has died from a heart problem.
It seems that Ivy had named Sarah as the legal guardian of her children, although she failed to tell Sarah what she had done. Sarah, of course, seeks to place the children with one or several Amish families in Pennsylvania. However, Lydia, the eldest child at age 17 has vowed to keep the family together–even if it means giving up the love of her life.
An interesting complication is that Bryan, Sarah’s old friend from college, is becoming more persistent in trying to make their friendship something more than just friendship.
Sarah has a lot to deal with all at once. To make matters worse, all of these things require that she must deal with issues in her own past before any decisions can be made.
The “Redemption of Sarah Cain” is the fourth book in an excellent series by this author. She has done an outstanding job of portraying the Amish lifestyle through several generations of a family.
