Because of the Civil War, many women–north and south–were left alone without the prospect of a husband. After the war, thousands of men went west to seek a new life, to seek a fortune. With all the lonely men in the west and all the lonely women in the east a new movement was begun–mail order brides.
Sincerely Yours is book seven in the Mail Order Bride Series by Al and Joanna Lacy. It is definitely not the best in the series. The authors spend more time setting the stage for the romance than on the romance itself. The characters are not real. They are entirely too perfect. No one is that good . . . especially children.
However, there is something terribly compelling, frightening, and so romantic about the mail order bride era. Can you imagine how frightening and yet exciting it would be to meet someone for the first time knowing you plan to be married in a few days or even hours?
When their eyes locked, an indescribable attraction rushed through Annamarie. Her lips formed a winsome smile against the smoothness of her face, and the ivory color of her features turned to pure rose. In those few seconds she thought of all the years of loneliness and emptiness, and the words God had spoken to Abraham echoed in her mind: “Is anything too hard for the Lord”?
The same attraction to Annamarie was rushing through Quint. Though he had studied her pictures from the newspaper clippings, seeing her in person did something to his heart. There was a strange magnetism between them that he had never experienced before. He could see it in her eyes and feel it in his heart.
Her eyes. Yes, there was something in her eyes that went even deeper than the magnetism the two of them were feeling . . . something Quint could not put into words. Suddenly it was as if the Lord said to him: ‘There she is, Quint. I chose her for you and she’s all yours.’ Words from the Bible ran through his mind: ‘Isaac took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her.’
‘Annamarie . . .’ Quint said as he stepped up to her. Her smile warmed his heart as she offered her hand and said his name.
He took her hand gently in his, ‘I’m so glad you’re here.’
