New Hobby Alert! I’m setting up a saltwater aquarium.
I don’t have any previous experience with fish tending, but have always been interested in the hobby, and I think some fun clownfish and anemones will make good apartment pets. I will keep you posted.
One great resource is Reef2Reef.com. The community has plenty of information for beginner reef keepers.
After some research, I decided to start with the small Hello Reef 15-gallon kit purchased through Bulk Reef Supply.
I was able to get the tank set up and working without too much trouble. Initially, I obsessed over the tank chemistry, but after a while, I was able to calm down and keep the tank going without obsessing. I have managed to keep my cleanup crew going for a while now. I have a very precocious peppermint shrimp and some hermit crabs and snails.
I’ve learned a lot, and could start adding coral to the tank, but I’ve decided to move this fall and spend some time in Europe. So I’m going to keep the tank as it is, and if the crew is still going, I’ll find someone to donate them to before I have to take the tank down.
